“What was that all about!” shouted Sooga, removing his mask.
Back in the comfort of their home, inside the Yiga hideout, they all removed their masks. Masks could only be removed in company of family, as their face must be kept secret, for safety’s sake, and symbolically, as a form of shedding one’s public face to reveal their true, personal, unchanged face and self. They could also, in private, start talking freely of the events that transpired just hours ago.
“Go big or go home, you know-” started Kohga, explaining his thought process poorly. “Go big and> go home.”
“You- you insult the King to his face, you remove us from trade meetings, you essentially make it now impossible for us to travel-”
“It’s not that bad,” Kohga waved his hand.
“Not that bad? This somehow seems worse than what our ancestors did 10,000 years ago! At least back then, it was a righteous cause, but this-”
Sooga didn’t have a habit of expressing himself through hand gestures a lot, except when he was angry. His hands were moving frantically.
“Do you realise the repercussions this will have on us?”
Kohga shrugged.
“He already hated all of us.”
“This is not about him! This is about us, what we are going to live through, right now, in a month, a year, 10 years from now!”
“Okay, I don’t know! I don’t know what that was all about,” admitted Kohga. “I was- I was getting angry- and frustrated- that no one could get me caught up on anything- and they’re all so- so caught up in their own little worlds that they’d rather do nothing than help people and it makes me so- It makes me so...”
Kohga didn’t finish his sentence. A young Fuga was tugging at his cape. He sighed, letting out all his frustration, before addressing Fuga in the most normal voice he could muster. He didn't want to seem angry at Fuga, he wasn't, and didn't want them to think he was.
“What’s up, banana?”
He looked into their eyes, wide open, deep red.
“Why are you and Soo fighting?”
Sooga approached both of them and crouched to get to Fuga’s height.
“Koko did something a little… reckless,” he started, glancing at Kohga. “And I’m worried for us. For him.”
“What’s… reckless?”
Kohga spoke this time.
“Doing something without thinking of the consequences. Sooga’s right, I did something dangerous because I wanted to, but I didn’t think how it would affect us.”
“Is something bad going to happen?” asked Fuga.
Kohga ruffled their hair and smiled at them.
“Not as long as we’re together.”
