Sketch of a man, standing and looking to the side. Two sketches of a man, in summer clothes.

Johnny Truants, drawn in 2023.

He has become quite the muse to me. Many will joke, or maybe earnestly say, that they hate Johnny Truant, but I cannot bring myself to. So what if he becomes the beast he has always feared?

Sketch of a man in the dark, stressed and grinning. He is thinking 'I'm being so brave right now'.Sketch of a man, wearing a hat that reads 'Women want me, fish fear me' and a shirt that reads 'Love me or hate me I'm on your mind'.

Sillier doodles, this time. He is on my mind.

Two sketches of a man, in which one appears healthy and happy, and the other appears gaunt and grimy.

Johnny Truant, beginning and end, 2024.

I felt bad for him, drawing this. He was in such a bad place, at the end of the novel. I hope he got to be safe again.

Created in late February/early March 2022. I have tried to keep it in the styles of 90s pop punk, as I believe it would be music he'd listen to, all while keeping them thematically relevant.

Created in late February 2022 as well, this one aims to be closer to The Navidson Record itself rather than the characters within it, or outside of it. Songs in this playlist emulate, in part, the essay, while others convey the quiet that descends on the house.

If you've read House of Leaves, but haven't yet checked out Haunted by Poe, I highly recommend it. It's a sister piece to the novel, made by Mark Z. Danielewski's sister. Simultaneously about their own childhoods and lives, and the lives of the characters in the book, it's a poignant album about grief.
